Help with error "Error: The firmware update process encountered an error (10/53)."

I have got a 600P 256GB M.2 SSD, but I could not perform firmware update via Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox as an error popped up "Error: The firmware update process encountered an error (10/53)." I rebooted my computer and tried again as per the recommendation following the error, it was still not successful.

So, I downloaded SSD Firmware Update Tool with iso format and loaded it into a bootable USB flash memory. After booting my device with the USB and running it automatically, I could only see a black screen with message "Out of Range" on my monitor. I waited for more than half an hour and did not see any pop-up or message for updating successful, so that I rebooted my PC again.

I confirmed my Win10 64bit system is up-to-date and attached Intel Logs as well. May I know what action should I take then? Thanks.

Hello,

I replaced my 520 series ssd with the new series  540s .

I can't activate the "Hard Disk Drive Password" in the bios.

So I updated the last Bios ( version 72  sept 2017 / Motherboard: DQ77MK  )

I updated too the last firmware of the ssd with intel SSD Toolbox !

As you can see all my computer is Intel !

Somebody have a clue why I can not activate the HD password prompt ?

( with my old ssd there was ok )

Best regards,        Vanilla.

Intel 750 Nvme pci-e ssd wont boot after backup Sata hdd installation

I have this same problem two or three times before...i have a Intel 750 400gb NVMe ssd pci-e hdd for boot drive on Windows 10 and a back up sata drive 2 TB. Yesterday, i just changed my 2 Tb sata drive for a 4 tb. After this very simple installation, i see '' Reboot ans select proper device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

My motherboard is a MSI Gaming 5 Z97. When i a change a HDD for back up, i always have this same problem. The NVME Pci-E 750 drive is recognize in Bios and i select this drive to boot first on BBS drive priority. I tried many solutions, search on google, on this forum but i didnt find solution. Why this problem when i change a back up Sata drive with the 750 NVME PCi-E drive ?  it's really annoying to make a fresh Win 10 install just to change a back up drive!

Intel SSD Firmware - NVidia GPU Cannot Display issdfut 2.2.3 GUI - WORKAROUND

Hi, everyone.

I write to discuss a problem with Intel's bootable SSD Firmware update, and to share my workaround.

Terms

issdfut - This is the name of Intel's Linux binary which updates firmware on SSD devices.

Poky - Poky, for the sake of this post only, is the Linux image used by Intel to enable firmware updates using issdfut. (Poky is actually a neat offering from Yocto for a roll-your-own embedded Linux. Intel chose well to apply it for booting a firmware update engine.)

Challenge

The Poky utility, as of Intel's version 2.2.3, fails to graphically render the issdfut user interface when NVidia 1080GTX GPU is present, causing Poky to boot to a blank and mostly unresponsive screen, unable to perform SSD firmware updates. If you have a NVidia GPU like mine, Intel's bootable SSD firmware update may not work for you without some tinkering.

My Workaround

Modify the boot command to include vga=ask for the graphical install option offered at boot. Choose native resolution (I chose mode 34D, but you'll see a list to choose from.)

When Poky boots this time, it sets the framebuffer resolution per vga=ask response, and successfully creates /dev/fb0 device. This changes the behavior of the Xorg detection, causing issdfut to load and flash successfully. Yay!

(Without vga=ask, the kernel never creates the framebuffer, and only creates the virtual device fbcon. When Xorg detects its settings to use and fbcon is the only option, you may lose your screen completely when Xorg starts. I did.)

Other Information

My workaround is incomplete. Though the task is solved, a full understanding of the problem evades me. Here are some ideas for doing your own digging:

  • The boot loader permits interruption with Tab. Press tab at the boot menu, then append linux 3 to the end of the boot command. This boots to non-graphical runlevel, letting you login to look around.
  • Root has no password and is granted auto-login, but only on tty1.
  • Poky's /etc/inittab is only setup for one getty, but you can add more, enabling them without reboot via init -t1 q
  • Most of the OS tools (network) are gutted, but you can mount other filesystems while booted to Intel's Poky RAM disk.
  • Even when the tty screen goes dark, it is still responsive.
    • It responds to ctrl-alt-bksp, but the display never comes back to you. (Loading Poky's Xorg kills the display, killing Xorg leaves you with a dead display.)
  • Backup plans in case I had to give up on Poky due to framebuffer/fbcon issues:
      • Build my own i686 and Xorg environment native on my system with the SSD, and dig issdfut out of the Poky ISO provided by Intel to run manually.
      • Build a 2.2 Poky reference, exactly like Intel's, and compile a few more Xorg drivers in. (I think Nouveau works with fbcon, but don't quote me on that.. it's voodoo. )
        • Instead of Xorg, I could also build a friendlier kernel and try booting that in Intel's Poky image.
      • Thankfully, I didn't have to do any of this. Wrote it here, though, in case it helps someone else struggling with this.

I feel so fortunate to have accidentally accomplished my firmware update. I hope this helps someone else do the same, and I also hope to one day fully understand the interoperability of framebuffer, framebuffer console, and Xorg. Doubly so when Nvidia is present; using NVidia devices on Linux can be a real chore given the state of framebuffer console behavior.

Cheers.

Raid 0 over PCIE SSD

I was curious to know if it is possible to stripe multiple Intel SSD DC P4500/4600 drives (HHHL not the 2.5" drives) into a RAID 0.  I am fairly confident I can use Microsoft Raid (server 2008 or better) to stripe them but I would like to avoid that.  Is there a tool in the Intel config bundle to stripe the drop in SSD cards?

Why would I want to do that? It's a dumb story but I am thinking this strategy would mitigate downtime on our large application until we build a better solution.

Thanks in advance your thoughts!

Transferring OS to Intel Optane 900P

So I'm trying to clone my Samsung 950 ssd, which contains my OS, to my new Optane 900p NVME 480gb and I understand you can't use the intel data migration software. So I'm wondering if anyone has used a third party cloning software to accomplish this task? My BIOS and SSD are configured to UEFI and partitioned to GPT. Need this to stay the same in order to maximize the 900p.

Intel SSD 520 Series unresponsive in Windows 10

I recently upgraded my Lenovo ThinkPad T61p (Type 6457-BF5) with an Intel SSD 520 Series (180 GB), and installed Windows 10 Professional 64-bit (Build 16299) on it. The SSD provided great performance improvement, but I also noticed something strange - the system would freeze every a few minutes, with no or light access to the SSD. During the incident, the laptop's HDD indicator was constantly on for up to a minute, and the mouse cursor could sometimes be moved, but clicking on objects was unresponsive.

I searched online and found a relevant article entitled "Task Manager might show 100% disk utilization on Windows 10 devices with Message Signaled Interrupt (MSI) mode enabled" on Microsoft Windows 10 Support (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3083595/task-manager-might-show-100-disk-utilization-on-windows-10-devices-wit). The described symptoms seemed exactly the same as mine, so I followed the instructions to disable the MSI mode in the registry, and rebooted my laptop.

However, the problem persisted. I installed the Intel SSD Toolbox and my SSD is in perfect condition, with the firmware version of LE1i. I guess it might need a more suitable driver than the default one provided by Windows 10, but I did not find it on Intel's website. There might also be some other settings needing tweaking. Could you please advise how to resolve this problem? Many thanks in advance.

why cannot find any information about my old ssd 320 series 600gb on the official website

Hello,

is it a good idea to use 2 peaces DC3510 as RAID 1 in hardware raid controller LSI 9260-8i?

I think the controller does not support the trim command.

Are there disadvantages in this assembly?

Power / SATA connection affecting data retention on SSD?

$

Hi,

I´m using an Intel SSD 535 for security backup. Backup is done fairly regular and the SSD is totally disconnected in between. As a backup SSD I want it (data) connected only during the actual backup sequences. Sometimes when it is time for security backup there is no new data in a certain data category, so a backup seems unnecessary. On the other hand I have to consider the issue of data retention.

What about leaving the SSD with the power plug connected and the SATA plug disconnected? It would decrease the amount of manual labor, but how would it affect data retention, compared to the alternative to completely disconnect the SSD? Where in the interval ("nothing at all" — "to the same level as with the SATA plug connected") is the expected affect?

Intel ssd 540s M.2 freezing randomly (win10)

$

Hi INTEL support team !! I have intel ssd 540s M.2 120Gb wich is causing weird issues and I want you to help me to identify the cause of this.

My motherboard is Asrcok A320M-DGS with the lastest bios version and the lastest ssd firmaware version.

The pc is new and I started expericing theese freezing problems  after restarting it the ssd wasn't detected at startup so only way to turn pc was to power off button and on agan .I updated bios and  freezing still occurs but not with this „not found boot device“ after restarting now pc turns normaly without this error and then  I found that I am not using the lastest ssd firmaware so I updated it.Everying works just fine but the problem with freezing still remains and its like hard freeze mouse stop moving and keyboard does't work so only way is to restart pc.So after all theese monts of expericing this issues I think that this is not related to sleep/hibernate prosses because never occurs when pc goes to sleep or hibernate not problem at all .

The main issues is causing random pc freezes when watcing you tube, playing music or instaling games there is no particular scenario that provokes freezing just happens randomly so its not related to sleep/hibernate issues .

This occurs once a month or in worst case 2-3 per  month it depends how often pc is used.It is not a big problem but I would like to consult with you intel support team for any tips how to fix this issue.

For  the final iI would like to ask some question:

Is windows 10 option turn off hard disk to never affect ssd or only hdd and can it help resloving this issue or its bad ot turnt it off ?

My motherboard has option called Agressive Sata device sleep set to auto .Can this cause ssd to freeze becasue of the mobo forcing ssd to go devsleep when its not needed ?

Is devsleep controled by motherboard with this option or ssd itslef cotrols this option I would really like to know ?

In my opinion this is devsleep issues with this particular ssd and motherboard but I want to hear your opinion thank you in advance intel support team!

3.84TB DC S4500 Spontaneous Failures - "disable logical state" - How/Why?

$

A couple of weeks ago I lost one S4500 3.84TB, I have 10 connected to an Adaptec HBA 1000 16i, via the SAS backplane in an Intel R2312GZ4GC4 server. I bought 3 more as spares and for testing in another machine.

The drive appeared to just spontaneously brick when part of a Windows Server 2016 Storage Pool used for hosting VM storage over SMB3, this caused the pool to lock up and I had to power cycle the server to regain responsiveness.

I couldn't bring the drive back online, so I disconnected it and connected to a plain SATA port on a PC and used isdct, whatever I try to do results in a message saying "Selected drive is in a disable logical state".

#isdct show -intelssd 1

- Intel SSD DC S4500 Series PHYS736000XXXXXXXX -

DeviceStatus : Selected drive is in a disable logical state.

Is there any way to get the drives out of this state?

I've now had another two drives in the same system fail within minutes of each other, leaving the storage pool unrecoverable. Any ideas what would cause this to happen to 3 drives out of 13 drives in a short period of time. Unless I can work out a cause I don't see any option but to return the drives, that kind of failure rate for a supposed data centre drive makes them not fit for purpose.

HP FW Update for Intel SSD 320 160GB Doesn't Work

$

So I just recovered from my 8mb Reported capacity on an HP (Intel made) SSD 320 160GB

I lost all data, and I had to use Part Magic to secure erase the drive.

To avoid this in the future I tried to update the Firmware.  I initially use the HP utility for my Elitebook 8440p.  That didn't detect the drive in the bay. I pulled the drive and added it to my Z400 and Z420, and still their utility couldn't detect the drive and asked that I contact http://www.intel.com/go/ssdsupport .. here I am!

I downloaded the firmware update ISO for the drive from Intel, and it's reporting that I have the latest revision.  If I had the latest revision, how could I have lost my data and got the 8mb capacity issue?

Somehow I need to either force the intel to update my FW or make the HP utility detect my drive.

My current FW is 4PC1HPG0

Thank you
